No, it is not possible to add an NVMe M.2 SSD to a laptop that only has a SATA M.2 SSD slot. The type of M.2 slot on a laptop’s motherboard determines the compatibility of the SSD that can be installed.

SATA M.2 SSDs and NVMe M.2 SSDs are different in terms of their interface and how they communicate with the system. SATA M.2 SSDs use the same interface as traditional SATA SSDs and operate at SATA speeds. On the other hand, NVMe M.2 SSDs use the NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) protocol, which allows for much faster data transfer speeds compared to SATA.

If your laptop has a SATA M.2 SSD slot, it means the motherboard is designed to support SATA M.2 SSDs. Attempting to install an NVMe M.2 SSD in a SATA M.2 slot will likely result in the SSD not being recognized or functioning correctly.

If you wish to upgrade to an NVMe SSD for faster performance, you would need to check if your laptop’s motherboard has an available NVMe M.2 slot. If it does not, unfortunately, you won’t be able to install an NVMe SSD without a significant hardware modification, which is generally not recommended for laptops due to complexity and potential warranty issues.
